lately, i have been getting calls from 206-336-7231. noone is ever on the line. so i decided to check it out.
so far, i found a website that said "skype" internet phone services, an ebay company.
http://about.skype.com/ - i don't know how much good that this "address" to this ebay company will do for anyone, but here is this website.
and it was in this "help and support" area that i found this information on how go stop calls. . . in other words, you can't get help.
i tried to find a phone contact but there ISN'T ANY. the only thing i found was this: if you want to get them to quit calling, you have to log in on their website, WITH TEH SAME PASSWORD AND ACCOUNT INFORMATION THAT YOU USE ON YOUR REGULAR INTERNET PHONE SERVICES. that does NOT sound legit to me. but here is where i found it:
here is their so-called help and support:
so i reported this to the do not call registry list.
i did figure out one thing. a few days ago, i was looking on ebay and ebay university, just looking to see waht ebay university was. and i think that this phone services is connected to it because that was when we started getting these calls on our phone.
i ended up reporting it to the do not call list.
Kevin C said: I've now become the new owner of this number. I'm getting a range of bemused nice people and one rather angry chap who said he'll come after me. I don't know who's doing what with the caller id but really if you people continue to leave harrasing and threatening messages I'll post them online and send them to the cops!
new to the number said: I recent reciev3d this number with a new cell phone and started to recieve calls for someone else from a collection agency. I was able to get the persons name and the balance they owe to TJ Maxx including their recent payments and amount over their credit limit. I was able to find the company behind the calls by calling back on a different phone and entering 0(zero) twice when asked for my phone number. I was given 1-866-779-2054 as a number to call. This number had an actuall, live person who promised to remove my number phone number from their list.
CAROLYN said: I could not get a number, only "Unknown Caller", but it was a foreign speaking (sounds Indian) man saying he is from some finance company. I have gotten a similar call every day this week, each time I would say I am not interested and to please take us off the list. The caller on the third day used some very terrible profanity, so I decided then I would not answer any calls that I do not know the number. Another unknown call came through on the 4th day and I did not answer. But then today (the 5th day of these calls) I was upstairs with the phone that does not have caller ID and not thinking I answered it and again it was one of those callers and I once again said I am not interested and to please not call again. How can we ever get these calls to end????? I even called my phone company to see if they could trace the call for me so I could get a name or number to report but they claim they cannot trace an "unknown caller"!!!!!!!!!!!!! They said there was nothing they could do, and that I should go to my local police but that they too would need a number!!!! Help!!
Fraud Victim said: This is a FRADULENT number claiming to be card services of Bank of America. On the caller I.D., it will show up as "Bank of America," however I have found after researching that it is NOT. When I tried to return the call, I received busy tones, which made me suspicious. After finally getting through the line, a lady answered and claimed to be card services from the credit division of Bank of America. However, she sounded unprofessional and the number did not appear to be a Bank of America number (I am a customer of Bank of America), so I asked her many questions. After realizing I was on to her scheme, she claimed she called me "in error."
I then called a legitimate Bank of America number that was listed on their actual website: www.bankofamerica.com. THE ACTUAL BANK OF AMERICA REPRESENTATIVE CONFIRMED FOR ME THAT THE 336-805-8946 NUMBER WAS IN FACT FRADULENT AND HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH BANK OF AMERICA. I have been a victim of fraud before and have since been very cautious. Fraud may happen to anyone. Please take the necessary steps to help protect yourself from fraud.
PROTECT YOURSELF FROM FRAUD:
If anyone ever receives a call, please double check the number regardless of what is listed on the caller I.D. There are many fradulent numbers out there that would pose as a legitimate company and will try to get valuable information from those who are unaware of these schemes.
Secondly, a legitimate company will NEVER ask for your Social Security number, account number, or any other private information when calling you. You will NOT need to confirm your address--if they are legitimate they are calling YOU and will already have those information on file and therefore will not ask for that information. The only time you may need to give that information is if YOU are calling to that company. If that is the case, always make sure you are calling a legitmate number. To confirm whether it is a legitimate number, make sure it is a number that is either: found on your billing statement, or a number from their actual website or any other confirmed source.
I hope this helps everyone!
